“Art, Humanity & Action Presents: Vote Mama” An evening of storytelling supporting moms in office.

On March 11, 2019, Art, Humanity & Action presented “Vote Mama” an evening of stories by and about badass mamas to support moms running for office. 100% ticket sales supported Vote Mama.

Vote Mama is the first political action committee (PAC) in the country dedicated to supporting moms running for office up and down the ballot. Due to the cultural and structural hurdles moms face, many choose to wait until their children are grown before running for political office. Because they wait to get started it is harder for women to achieve leadership positions at the same rates as men. Vote Mama is dedicated to changing that by supporting democratic moms in their campaigns.

Vote Mama was launched by former congressional candidate and mother of two Liuba Grechen Shirley who ran a historic campaign for Congress in 2018, winning a FEC ruling to use campaign funds for childcare. (Hear more about Liuba and Vote Mama on our podcast: Ep. 10: A mama runs for Congress.)

Art, Humanity & Action raised nearly $1,800 in ticket sales for Vote Mama at our storytelling show featuring a range of performers sharing personal stories about badass mothers and motherhood. Performers included Amber Drea (RISK!, Sideshow Goshko), Anita Flores (Party of Two, Gross Girls), Emily Warren (New York Story Exchange), Jamie Brickhouse (RISK!, 4X Moth StorySLAM Champion), Michele Carlo (Stories From The Stage, Author “Fish Out Of Agua”), Sandi Marx (7X Moth StorySLAM Champion, Hot Mic with Dan Savage), and Tracie Osborne (Grackle). With special remarks from Ny Whitaker (County Committeewoman, 68th Assembly District) and Liuba Grechen Shirley (Founder & CEO, Vote Mama)

The event was hosted by Nicole Ferraro, founder, Art, Humanity & Action.
